Founder’s Note — B.N. Ramgopal

“When nature thrives, humanity prospers.”

Having been born into a family of coffee planters and growing up amidst the lush coffee plantations of Malenadu, the “land of rains” in Karnataka’s Chikmagalur district, I learned early that life and livelihood depend entirely on the balance of nature and rainfall.

Over time, I witnessed that balance slowly break.

Deforestation, overuse, and unsustainable practices began to disturb the natural rhythm.
Farmers and planters who once relied on rainfall now turned to borewells and irrigation systems. This signaled a world drifting away from nature’s grace.

As an IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, with over three decades in global corporations and two decades as an entrepreneur, I came to realize how the same forces that drive human progress can also leave quiet scars on the planet. This realization stirred a restlessness in me, a desire to create something that unites purpose, people, and the planet, until I found my niche.

This purpose led me deep into rural and tribal India. There, I discovered a world of extraordinary craftsmanship and handmade products created without machines or electricity, with care and respect for nature. The artisans and their work embodied simplicity, beauty, and sustainability, offering a natural alternative to plastic and mass production.

From this discovery, I realized that it would be an impossible mission without urban communities supporting the cause by buying, using, and gifting such products. I single-handedly chose products that are perfect for personal use and make wonderful gifts that create lasting memories.

Thus, Buddy Earth was born,  a brand built on the belief that small choices can make a big difference.

Today, Buddy Earth offers 74 occasions for conscious gifting, featuring over a thousand eco-friendly, handcrafted products for owning and gifting. Each carries purpose, awareness, and gratitude for the planet and its people.

For Ramgopal, Buddy Earth is not just a brand. It is a mission to reconnect humanity with nature, and a reminder that our future can still be green — if we choose it.
